The Silmarillion JRR Tolkien I have pleasure in offering this very rare SUPER DELUXE version of The Silmarillion. Initially published in 1977 some pages were reserved to be used in this 1982 deluxe edition on the fifth anniversary. Known amongst collectors as the Red Silmarillion it is one of the rarest of all Tolkien books and certainly one most collectors dream of owning. Whilst a 1000 were initially planned it is now thought only 300 were bound. So to the book itself: Bound in the original natural red leather with raised bands, gilt stamping, and top edge gilded as issued. The front board features the JRRT Monogram in gilt whilst the heraldic device Tolkien designed to represent Luthien Tinuviel is stamped to the rear. Inside is a red ribbon page marker and on first free endpaper the publisher's limitation plate stating number 119. The spine is faded and there is a minor mark on the bottom of the spine. See photos. Map clean and all else as new. The slipcase is original with the book opening edged with matching red leather. Very minor handling marks. So overall a lovely copy of The Silmarillion and one rarely seen for sale. A real one off and a gem in any Tolkien collection.
