Nixed set of The US editions of The Lord of the Rings in dust jackets. The Fellowship of the Ring is the 1st Houghton printing, with title page date of 1954. One of 1500 copies printed. Book is attractive, front hinge opening, dust jacket is the first state state with the ascender of the ‘d’ in Frodo on the rear flap clipped, and a straight bottom edge beneath the Tolkien portrait. Ex libris of Shirley W. Cooley at paste-down. Jacket has edge wear, losses at foot of spine and head of spine. Map intact. The Two Towers is a 4th US printing, with no date on title page, and “Copyright, 1955, by JRR Tolkien” and “First published in the United States 1955” on verso of title-page. Later printings show damage to the ‘n’. Jacket has edge wear, losses at corners and head and foot of spine and heavy wear at upper fore-edge fold. Pleas see photos. Map intact I received an email from an eBay user saying the dustjacket of Two Towers is a later dust jacket. . That it lacks the identifying points of the early jackets and, based on the color, may be from a 7th printing copy. Thanks to eBay citizen onebookinamillion for the information on Two Towers is printings and jacket. The Return of the King is the 1st Houghton printing with date of 1956 on title-page.
