Sir Gawain and the Green Knight JRR Tolkien 1925 1/1, First UK Edition, HC. This first edition run was one of only 2500 printed. Tolkien's second ever published book, predating his first major fiction work "The Hobbit" by 12 years. This is an incredibly rare first printing from Tolkien's and Gordon's academic work on "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" which includes introduction, notes and a glossary by both authors. Most noticable mark on the book is 3 rings on the front cover. Aside from normal wear and tear, book is in excellent condition. Pages are crisp and show very little aging. Some writing in book, which virtually every copy has, as to read the old prose much translation work is needed. This copy is cleaner than most, and almost all writing actually helps with reading the text. No dust jacket. Glossary has a tab system from the original owner, can be removed if desired if care is taken. First page has an inscription with name and date of 1929. Spine and boards are in great shape.
