First published in 1982 by Allen & Unwin, this book reproduces the original manuscript that J.R.R. Tolkien wrote and illustrated (there are a total of 44 color illustrations throughout). The text is printed (a bit more legibly than Tolkien’s writing!) on each adjacent page. This edition was published in July of 1994, being made available after a long absence. The number line shows that this is a 2nd printing and ostensibly the 1st thus (the 1st printing thus of the corresponding 1994 US Houghton Mifflin edition shows a number line ending with ‘2’; it seems likely that the same sequence was used for this UK edition). One of Tolkien's least-known short works, this book tells the story of Mr. Bliss and his first ride in his new motor-car. Many adventures follow: encounters with bears, angry neighbors, irate shopkeepers, and assorted collisions.
