Number 245 of 250 limited centenary edition of the Lord of The Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, signed by the illustrator Alan Lee. 3/4 cloth bound hardback with silvered page edging, and cloth bound slipcase. This copy: the book is pristine; the slipcase has very mild foxing on some edges as in photographs.; it has always been kept in a glass fronted bookcase. This copy is personalised: It was acquired on the occasion of the launch of this edition (and the standard hardback) held at Waterstone's in Exeter on 10th October 1991. At the time, Alan Lee lived in Devon and the event included an exhibition of the original artwork for the book. In addition, a talk was given by Rayner Unwin, son of the publisher Stanley Unwin of George Allen & Unwin. Rayner reviewed the Hobbit prior to its publication when he was 10, and later a friend of Tolkien's. With both Alan Lee and Rayner Unwin at the event they agreed to both sign a dedication on the Waterstone's bookplate on the inside of the cover in this copy. This copy is therefore unique, being the only one signed by Lee and Unwin on the occasion of the edition's launch. I will parcel the book using bubble wrap, and a robust box. I will pay for Royal Mail Special Delivery (24 hr, tracked, signed for) or a similar service (and cost) at the buyers request.
