It is well loved and has inscriptions on the titlepages - it is complete with its original dustwrapper. "In a hole in ground there lived a hobbit, Not a nasty dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat; it was a hobbit hole, and that means comfort." And so started - one of the most famous books ever written. It met with instant critical acclaim when first published in 1937. It is a timeless classic and its plot includes the Hobbit - Bilbo Baggins, the Wizard, Gandalf, an invisible universally coveted invisible ring, a dangerous dragon and the spectacular Middle-earth. 8vo. Hardback. Green boards with blue black titles and decoration drawn by Tolkien. Clean boards with no marks. Internally the half title & one side of the front & rear map endpaper missing. Some black lines drawn on titlepage & "Hobbit" written heavily on copyright page - otherwise complete with all colour & black and white illustrations present. The original dustwrapper is present with shallow chipping to head of spine & to top right corner of front panel. Some toning to spine o/w complete. Original price of 20snet to front flap.
