date: 1971]. Rare Third English Edition, 6th Impression. Third Edition stated on
the front flap of the Dust Jacket. 8vo. 7.5" x 5.5" Inches. (LxB). Pp.
317, [1, Colophon], [2, ads] pages, complete with 14 illustrations
including 4 color plates plus 2 Maps: Thror's Map and the Map of
Wilderland on the endpapers & eight full page single sided black and
white illustrations, for all printings of the Third Edition, the two
maps were printed on endpapers. Original publisher's Fine blue cloth
binding, with the darker blue lettering on the front cover & spine, dust
jacket price clipped but with Third Edition stated on the front flap.
The amazing quality of the binding is in Near Fine condition. The
original Dust Jacket is in a very good condition with some chipping to
spine ends, 2'' split to front spine fold. DJ in now in a protective
mylar wrap.
J.R.R. Tolkien's classic prelude to his Lord of the
Rings trilogy. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable,
unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or
cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a
company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on
an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard
guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon.
Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the
Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening
creature known as Gollum. Written for J.R.R. Tolkien's own children, The
Hobbit has sold many millions of copies worldwide and established itself
as a modern classic.

CONDITION
REPORT: A rare book in original publisher's hardcover
blue cloth binding, with the darker blue lettering on the front cover &
spine, dust jacket price clipped but with Third Edition stated on the
front flap, book with minor wear tear to covers, spine, ends &
corners, pages are clean & bright, the binding is
tight, intact. The cloth is smooth & supple to the touch.
Note:
The
original Dust Jacket with 2'' split to lower front spine fold & with
edgewear to spine ends & corners.
Previous owners ink signature on the front blank.
