I just got note from Merlin Unwin Books that the Special Edition of the George Allen & Unwin Remembrancer will be delivered to them on Wednesday and that they plan to start shipping them out on Thursday.

I actually cancelled mine as the shipping to NZ was going to be so high (£57). Having purchased the standard edition (and having it in hand), I'll be really interested to see how people feel about it being used in a deluxe context, and whether the slipcase swings the whole package far enough into deluxe territory to justify the price.

Think they are using FedEx - hence the high shipping costs.

They are -- but it makes the cost untenable for no benefit other than getting the book a few days earlier.

True (and maybe less chance of damage in transit).
Maybe worthwhile asking if they would send via Standard Post?

Tbh, I'm not that bothered. I have the standard edition. It is a perfectly respectable trade edition, but it is definitely very borderline for a £125 slipcased edition (it isn't as high quality as a recent HarperCollins standard edition, for instance). You can smell the cheap paper (smells like a paperback, although the paper is better than a typical paperback, to be fair). Happy to let this one go to someone who will enjoy it more than me. With international shipping it would be the world's most expensive buckram slipcase for me.
Have you paid Merlin Unwin for the special edition book yet? I called up and reserved a copy a few weeks ago, but haven't had an email requesting payment yet. Want to make sure I don't fall through the cracks!

Yes I have and a receipt for payment, send an email to [email protected] who is handling these.
