There was also the Guild Publishing Edition (Book Club)
Just got one of these Michael Hague Hobbits (https://tolkienbooks.net/php/details2.php?id=157) , the book is a Guild Publishing Edition #3 variant, but the dust-jacket is GA&U, very annoying
Congratulations Ulmo and Rob and Uruloke. I would like to thank Bergelmir for the help getting this one:
Well, that was also a pleasure, but to be honest, I just found you an interesting ad so it wasn't much
Glad to see it arrived well :)

Very very nice Mr. Underhill
Your US 2nd edition 1st print is in very nice condition, as mine : it's scarce in any condition, but even more scarce when fine ! How are the spines of the DJ?
Good job !

Two years ago I would not have said that was a rare edition. In fact I gave one away (to a dear relative) with zero reservations. Now it’s getting tougher to find. I used to see it all the time in used book stores; now I almost never find Tolkien hardcovers in person at all.
have been looking for the 1978 “signature” set in halfway decent condition for at least that long and it has gotten super expensive. I am thinking my best strategy will be to buy two sets in order to get a nice combo of good clean box, jackets, and boards (and sell off the residue), since it’s hard to find one with all three.
