it is not possible to completely match the binding colour of modern bindings to 1937 bindings, but I much prefer the green that has been used on this edition, and it is the same colour as the top-stain

Just trying out the Audio CD, disappointed Roast Mutton fades out after 1:12 seconds, on the Kindle Hobbit, it was 16 minutes 28 seconds long. The other tracks are all the correct length.

The green looks much better than the blue-grey that was used previously. Is there any change in the green shade on the DJ, or it it still too dark? I know they didn't make any content changes to the jacket (still uses the wrong typeface).

I can't see any changes in the green shade on the dj, the new Hobbit is printed in China by RR Donnelley APS, the ISBN is the same as the 2016 and both are I for the impression.

As it is a different printer, the paper has also changed for the end-papers and the dust-jacket, both look whiter than before.

The booklet is interesting, most of the text by Wayne and Christina is taken from The Companion and Guide and The Adventures of Tom Bombadil, but the Dragon lecture is new, and gives Tolkien a chance to complain about things he does not like such as roads as part of a very interesting talk.

A reddit user has made a youtube video of the book

I really wish they would stop labelling later impressions as "I". It seems to be happening with alarming regularity when they print in China.

Sounds fantastic. Need to wait to next year though ("summer 2019"), is that?

Joshi & Schultz did the same for H. P. Lovecraft many years ago (it's into it's third edition now) & this sort of thing is a fantastic tool for collectors of books an author (Tolkien in this case) owned, as well as being very interesting in itself (for scholars & fans alike).

Jeremy, FYI these pages with embedded YouTube videos aren’t rendering on my phone very well.

100% agreed! It was very much an educational experience trying to use/moderate the site solely on phone for the trip. Many things need fixing.

Haha no worries. Trips like these are once in a lifetime - website stuff is ongoing and can wait a couple days, but I thought I’d let you know anyway :)

I’m off to read about your experiences in the other thread.

Thanks for holding the fort down while you were away.
