Agreed. If I knew what it actually was I might have grabbed it.

It would be nice to have a one-stop online reference that would list all known items signed by Tolkien. There seem to be quite a few books offered as signed by Tolkien. It would be interesting to see the difference in number between items whose signatures are reasonably certain to be authentic, and those about which there's significant doubt.

While we don't have anything like that, what you could do is use the search function on the site via Google. A lot of what Google can do isn't supported in the search features yet - In the meantime, you can use google to refine your search - type the following into your google search bar:

site:tolkienguide.com "signed by tolkien" for example.

and it will return only pages that contain that exact phrase.

Love to see rare ephemera like this. Price is a wonder though.

I bought the item for £30, they cancelled the order and refunded me, then relisted it exactly the same at £100 and sent me an offer to buy it at £95, which of course I refused.

I think this seller is one to avoid.

Complained to eBay but am 99.999% sure that they will do nothing ?

Imagine being that greedy for a couple bucks. There's a saying that anyone under 99.99% positive is a seller to avoid, and he's sitting at a terrible 97%.
