Does A&I fall into the same category as these three books (Art books and Pictures)? I was under the impression that A&I is of a somewhat different format - more text to accompany pictures - whereas Art books are heavier on pictures.Ecthelion wrote:
I wonder if they'll publish A&I in the same format...
Also, if there's someone who has - like myself - somehow managed to miss out on the Art books - Waterstones webshop states that the publisher is reprinting the Art of the Hobbit. It was available in a few shops (WS, Bodleian, Foyles) until maybe a few weeks ago. Now it's nowhere to be found.
This looks to be the UK edition at a sensible price https://biblio.co.uk/book/art-hobbit-j-r-r-tolkien/d/604070616
Mr. Underhill - Thanks for that explanation.

I’m seeing the Art of the Hobbit is available at BookDepository and the Nile. Am I missing something?
The HoughtonMifflin edition is available at BookDepository but the HarperCollins edition is not.
The HMH edition does not come with the slipcase.

Trivially easy to pick up on eBay if anyone doesn't want to wait for the next reprint. Not like there haven't been lots of the these printed.
This book looks quite interesting but am unable to find it for sale as a printed book only as an eBook from Google. If you find it for sale as a printed book, please post the link.

In 1911, at the age of nineteen, J. R. R. Tolkien embarked on an adventurous journey through the Swiss Alps; with a heavy pack, he hiked over many high passes. More than fifty years later, he mentioned in a letter to his son Michael that this trip had deeply affected him. Bilbo's journey in The Hobbit from Rivendell to the other side of the Misty Mountains, he said, was based on his own adventures in 1911.
Tolkien himself named a few specific sources of inspiration, most explicitly the Silberhorn (Silverhorn). So I wondered: Was this perhaps only the tip of the iceberg? Following in Tolkien's footsteps, I myself set out into the spectacular mountain world with its stories, myths, and legends, in search of his sources of inspiration; and little by little, a vivid and mysterious world revealed itself to me: a world that helped shape Middle-earth.
More than 100 color images accompany the author's research and discovery journey, along with 11 hiking and 3 road trip suggestions that allow readers to recreate Tolkien's experience with all its impressions themselves in the Swiss mountains.
"This book is above all else an invitation to step into Tolkien's hiking shoes, shoulder his pack, and step back a century into a world which is as far from today as Middle-earth is from our world; a guidebook of impressions, a walking tour of the nature of imagination and the imagination of nature." - John Howe

Apologies if this was posted elsewhere, but any idea how accurate this may be?

Don’t hold your breath! It may be right but it’s been touted for several years, and even though it is being worked on the author said in an interview recently, he doesn’t like to give dates as lots of things can happen in between.

Could not agree more, will be pleased to see this when released but I don't believe that date will happen.
