I much prefer the dark orange of the 1998 edition (which I love). This one looks quite nice, but realistically it IS probably a bit too bright and toning it down a fraction would probably have been a better result.
Looking forward to getting my copy. It has, apparently, shipped.

A comparison of the two editions
I'm a little unfamiliar with some older editions: is that the 1998 limited edition of the illustrated edition, or another one that predates it? (I've seen some that look similar to the LE)
It is the 1998 Deluxe edition http://tolkienbooks.net/php/details2.php?id=746

Ah, excellent - a unicorn on my list. Very envious of you for having that
You will need to set aside quite a bit of money, these days, unfortunately. I paid what I considered a lot (at the time), and they are at least double that now. Plus, they just don't show up very often. They are a lovely edition, but I'm not sure I'd personally be willing to pay the current market rate. But hey, welcome to hyperinflation!
This was the edition you were showing at the TS collectors showcase on Saturday wasn’t it? It looked very nice in hand. Lucky man.
No the edition that I showed at the weekend was the Super Deluxe Silmarillion, http://tolkienbooks.net/php/details2.php?id=728
