Spammer bots creating fake accounts sometimes screw up the database - fixed for now. Might be doing some site maintenance the next few evenings, so if you see anything strange drop me an email (webmaster at tolkienguide dot com) as I am trying to do some cleanup and might not catch everything.

At least the issue you noticed is easily patched - go to https://www.tolkienguide.com/modules/newbb/ and above all the forum listings is a drop-down labeled "Main Options". The first option is "Mark all forums read".
It may just be the site cookie expired on you so your browser lost track of what you had read, but I think it is the code for the site that has "issues".
In other news, I have started adding social networking hooks - first pass is a simple "Share" button on all the news articles, so you can easily forward any interesting articles to your Facebook profile, twitter account, or any of a bunch of other sites. You will see and have a chance to edit the posts before they are sent, so give it a try! I know it still needs a bit more cleanup to get working the way I want. I will be adding these buttons to the forum posts and Guide pages as well.
