Does anyone collect Tolkien Journals and Fanzines and if so have you noticed the increase in prices recently on Ebay? The UK Tolkien Society journals in particular seem to have reached ridiculous prices on Ebay.
I have only been on Ebay for a few years now and I used to pick these journals up for a few dollars each, now early editions of Amon Hen are going for over $100 US.
Has anyone seen prices rise like this before?
I'm hoping that they will eventually return to a more affordable price so I can complete my set.
Also, has anyone managed to obtain any copies of Tyalie Tyelellieva??
I have been trying to get any editions (I think there were 19) but they seem to be quite tough to get.

Yes I have seen the Amon Hen beign sold for high prices. I was always in the idea that it was still possible to order back-issues of Amon Hen. It is very tempting to start selling my own old Amon Hen!

Beren,
Yes it is very tempting to sell my copies of Amon Hen as well.I hae some doubles which I think i might put up on ebay. The Tolkien Society do sell some back issues at quite good prices. I have already bought these.

It looks like there are 2 or 3 people trying to build a complete set of AH at the moment. I think you can get copies going back as far as AH50 from the TS, but for copies before that you need a large slice of luck or a large bank balance!
I've spent twenty years trying to get a set of Amon Hen together, but have only managed to get copies going back to issue 22. Mallorn is just as difficult - before issue 10 they ae very thin on the ground.
The hunt goes on!

Does anybody have a copy of Mallorn 8?
I need to get hold of a copy of the report of Rayner Unwin's speach at the TS AGM. A photocopy or a scan would be very helpful.

I am after the account of Rayner's speech at the AGM. According to the Mallorn index it is on pages 20-23 - not sure if this refers to his speech or the AGM report as a whole. Specifically I am interested in what he had to say about The Silmarillion, and Tolkien publishing in general.

The Rayner speech is quite interesting considering what was discussed in terms of future (at that time) publications and it was good to read it again.
There is still one question that I have, and that's regarding Tyalie Tyelellieva? Has anyone got any information on this journal? I am particularly interested in Number 17 although I haven't managed to get any as yet.

Sorry for being away for so long... work trip.
I've definitely noticed that there are certain issues of AH and Mallorn that are quite scarce, and that certain people are very keen on getting them. You will see, for example, one particular issue of AH go over $100 and another from the same seller from the same era get no bids at $20 or so. But there is definitely a surge in interest in all of these old fanzines recently, I think they are the new hot collectible (like the History of Middle-earth was back around 2000-2002). They will stabilize again soon I think, when the current well-funded collectors get their sets together or run out of money/interest, or else when the high prices bring out a lot of copies from closets and the market meets the current demand.
I emailed Lisa Star about Tyalie Tyelellieva, she may have some back issues available still.
