Just seen this on the Plaza site -

http://www.lotrplaza.com/forum/forum_ ... 38659&PID=7326752#7326752

- the latest post with pictures shows a very nice bookplate signed by Christopher and Ted Nasmith

Ooohhh! - haven't seen one of those before.

Not a good answer to my question, I am now more suspicious of these items

I have not seen these signed labels before, can you give any more information on the event that you got them from?

The event was the Fellowship Festival in England (I forgot which one of them) and they are pretty unique as they are sorta business cards stuck into the books. It was Royd Tolkien that brought them, he got his granddad Christopher to sign them as he couldnt come. I have completely forgotten who the other autograph belongs to :( I think in all there were only like 10? Maybe 20? The convention (Fellowship Festival) is not done anymore as the one who did the others sorta didnt pay the actors as promised or something like that. There is no official site for it.

I've been to one of the Fellowship Festivals - 2003, I think; at the Alexandra Palace in London. I think that was the last one, come to think of it. I don't remember seeing Royd Tolkien there, so I guess the poster must have meant an earlier occassion.

The signatures look good to me, so despite our friend's obvious lack of knowledge about who Royd's grandad was, , I think I feel a little more charitable towards the poster than Trotter may do.

The poster implies this was stuck in the book at the time: "and they placed them in the Simarillion books". This was published in 2004, which would contradict the information garm provided. Nice though...

Oh, sorry - ought to have checked before I posted. This Festival took place on 28-30th August 2004. Alan Lee and John Howe were there, as I recall. As fr Royd Tolkien - he may have been there on a different day to the one I was there.

Sorry about the mix-up.

Love your posts garm! Sounds like it was a great event; you couldn't even remember attending! *chuckle* --but, hold on, Alan & Ted might have been there too! Well, if I'd been to half as many Tolkien events as you, I'd probably forget who all had been there too. Anyway, I look forward to looking into TCG tomorrow; "Hold on!, I actually have one of these signed Silmarillions in my collection now that I think about it..." hehe...

Aw, c'mon - I only got the year wrong.

Actually, Ted wasn't there; but I got one or two items signed by Alan Lee and John Howe (they'd each contributed to these items) - and then got Ted to sign 'em too, the following month!

And, oh yes! My copy of the 2004 Silm is signed - but only by Ted, I'm afraid!

God damn, I meant John, not Ted!

**A Call To All Members Of TCG**

I've contacted a few of you privately about this, but I may as well bump this thread & put the question out there.

Has anyone seen these bookplates (other than on lotrplaza)?
Does anyone recall hearing anything about these bookplates in 2004?
Does anyone recall talk of this kind of bookplate in 1998?

Any information would be useful!

I saw one in an eBay advert a few years ago (maybe four or five years back). Of course, it could be the same one as this.
