'Autograph letter signed, three times with initials ("JRRT"), to his publisher Rayner Unwin ("Dear Rayner"), written while the third volume of The Lord of the Rings, namely The Return of the King, was in proof and while Tolkien was working on the appendices and maps ("...Silence has meant unremitting labour..."), Sandfield Road, Oxford, 12 May 1955'

Estimate £6,000 - £8,000.

Yes some nice lots indeed
This picture went unsold with another auction house 1-2 years ago. I was wondering if it might pop up again
We will see if it fairs better this time at much reduced and probably more realistic reserve
Get saving your pennies !

I would imagine that the picture will probably go for above the £5000 estimate.

Anything in the thousands is too rich for my blood but what a treasure. It seems strange that the letter has a higher estimate than the picture. If I had that kind of money, I think I'd be going for the picture. I rarely see any of his art come up for auction.
