U.K. editions of The Hobbit in which the standard eight black & white illustrations are included as colorized by H.E. Riddett:
1976 De Luxe Edition (reprinted 1979, 1984, 1986, 1990)
1976 Folio Society Edition
1987 Anniversary Super De Luxe Edition (500 copies)
Any others? Any U.S. editions?
He also did a very striking colorization of ‘The Three Trolls are Turned to Stone.’ Am I alone in thinking the mass appeal these is underrated? For that matter, why no edition of The Silmarillion with Tolkien’s illustrations throughout (is there)?
I’m afraid I don’t have a copy of Wayne’s Descriptive Bibliography, so, I apologize if some of my research and questions are tediously newbieish.
