Horrible facsimiles

I've noticed more and more bad facsimiles of later impression Hobbits turning up lately. They really make my eyes bleed. This one is a hybrid of one of Mark Terry's disastrous early 1st impression jackets and some flap scans/reproductions of the 1961 flaps. The result is every bit as nauseating as you would expect of an nth generation copy of a digital hack job. Ugh.

Edit: He has fixed it and put up a better jacket. One more evil facsimile bites the dust, so all is well that ends well.

Can't work out where the facsimile dust-jacket came from for this copy, pretty awful but not from Mark Terry?

It is not the same height as the book, so fits really badly

I'm not sure why ADC would even include that, given that it doesn't fit (and isn't even close). I don't think it is an MT one, as the MT 1946 is based on an earlier version of my 1946, and it doesn't have the thick black runes like that one exhibits. That said, Mark didn't quite get my printing instructions, so printed at correct size the little bit of white shows top and bottom when printed if not accounted for when choosing the size (I sorted that on later versions by ommitting the white and having a bleed edge). I don't think it would be that far off, though. 1mm top and bottom, not 3 or 4 top and bottom.

Could have been partially ripped from the medium-res stuff I had posted up here, but removed when I found at least one eBay user printing sub-standard jackets from them. That might explain the over-thickening of some of the imagery. Dunno, really. I'm inclined to think it comes from somewhere completely different, though.

I really wish people took more care with this stuff.

(And as an aside, that book is NOT near fine, either)
