Two items from Dominic Winters Auction
Lot 906 - Estimate £300-£500
The Fellowship of the Ring, being the first part of the Lord of the Rings, 1st edition, George Allen & Unwin, 1954,
folding map at rear printed in red and black, minor browning to endpapers, original red cloth, covers with some damp discolouration to front edges (front cover with approximately half the surface area affected), in slightly soiled and frayed dust wrapper (price unclipped), spine darkened and with very minor loss to extremities, 8vo

Lot 907 - Estimate £700-£1000
Autograph letter signed, 'J.R.R. Tolkien', 20 Northmoor Road, Oxford, 4 July 1939,
to Miss Segar, concerning her and other colleagues' hours for forthcoming exams to be overseen, 'Can you arrange to be free (according to the time-table I sent) on all the days except Friday 21st and Monday 24th?... If you will tell me Miss R[idgeway]'s address I will fetch her at the required times', thanking her for her kindness and 'we'll say no more about recompense. Just a card to signify that this is all fixed up would be a further kindness', a little spotting and a few light creases at head and foot, 2 pp., 8vo
