In the late 1950's and early 1960's Tolkien fandom blossomed out of the Science Fiction fandom environment, and quickly grew into something completely different. The early fanzines from this period are a wonderful collection of documents for the people and topics being discussed when The Lord of the Rings was still only available in hardcover and only known in very small circles.
