Prices have always been a bit variable for the hardback boxed set. I paid AU $30-ish for mine, maybe seven years ago, which was on the low side (no other bidders, IIRC). Think I've seen them go for over £100. Just seems to be down to whether any one else is looking at the same time as you. Usual eBay story, basically. I think it is a bit more difficult to find the bargains these days, as there are a few "professional" eBayers that seem to be active in the Tolkien space, picking up things to resell.

Just landed the set for €70 in very good condition which i think is a great price in todays market. This is my favourite 3-volume lotr.
