The Lord of the Rings getting its own land at the Orlando theme parks has been one of the most rumored stories of the past 12 years. Since 2010 there have been countless news stories, forum posts, and rumor videos—but could Universal Orlando’s upcoming theme park, Epic Universe, finally seal the deal?
Let’s dig into all of the rumored concepts, and what rides set in Middle-Earth were actually being developed for Epic Universe, in today’s rumor update. See the video version of this story for additional visuals.

Absurd and sad....but to be expected. A natural next step after Peter Jackson and Amazon.

I think it will happen in the next few years. I don't personally care if it happens or not. I won't go to see it, that is a certainty. The same with the New Zealand 'as Middle-earth' thing. I don't share the emotional connection some people seem have for these places.
Out of interest, where do you all feel most connected to Tolkien?
There is a place in the Welsh hills, entirely unconnected to Tolkien movies and whatnot, an oak tree sat just off the river as it comes from the hills around Snowden, a sandstone wall that has been there for generations. There I feel connected to Tolkien because it is where I often took a break on walks and read his books as a teenager.

It says the plan can be trace back to 2018. But Saul Zaentz is selling theme park rights in 2022...Looks like there'll be lawsuits again.

Saul Zaentz would be involved then, and now.
And there's nothing preventing the rights to be geographically specified - Epic Universe could theoretically have the rights for a theme park "in Florida" or "in the USA", while SZ continues to shop rights for other locations in parallel. Just idle rumination on my part here.

Not a big deal to me if it happens or not, there is already a LOTR theme park essentially in New Zealand with "Hobbiton" and the Green Dragon and such and no one seems upset by that.

I'll bet that, though that location isn't associated in your mind with movies made from Tolkien's writings or with specific scenes in his books, it does have some affinity with something in the latter. In other words, your memory of the place is enriched by associations both with the content of what you read and with the time in which you read it.
If that makes sense to anyone else, it would be interesting to hear about such spots of time and place, though I'm not sure this topic is the place to post such comments.

Mod Edit- I have split the discussion on places connected to Tolkien into a new thread.
