Truth be told I didn't think much of season one but I do genuinely wish the show well and if it brings some people to read books then that is the success I'd wish, for any show that adapts a work.

For me the most appealing part of coming back for season two was Joseph Mawle and his recasting will likely affect my enjoyment as I will miss his performances. He was in a handful of Game of Thrones episodes and he's still the character I think about most. He is not just a great actor but an extraordinary one and his performance in this series was what gave it a real gritty edge that I'd not found in any of the other actors except Ismael. I found it rather perplexing that the only characters I cared about were original ones of the show, mland one who leads a band of orcs. It says a lot of how I reacted to the various characters.

From what I understand, the showrunners are going back to the drawing board for season two, which is a great thing because season one had a variety of issues. Pacing, casting, logistical reality, dialogue, faithfulness to the lore; these all need to be addressed for season two.

The recasting of Adar was not a positive IMO

Not at all surprised it boosted Tolkien sales however, which is of course a good thing.
