TOLKIEN, J.R.R. (1892-1973), 2 Pieces of Correspondence Concerning the Dating of the 14th C Poem, 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight'.
A scholarly edition of this work was published by Tolkien and his colleague E.V. Gordon in 1925. The lot consists of a three page typed letter from Mr A.I. Mackay to professor Tolkien with a detailed analysis of the terms used for various pieces of armour and at what date they first came into use. The 2nd letter is the typed, hand signed response from Tolkien expressing his gratitude, dated 17/7.1971.
