UPDATE: Sold

Hi all,

I'm selling a copy of Sisam's Fourteenth Century Verse and Prose, which is bound with Tolkien's Glossary. The Sisam part is the "impression of 1928" and the Glossary is the "impression of 1929".

Book plate stamp and name in manuscript on the FFEP. There are copious manuscript notes on pretty much every page in the Sisam part (see photos for example) but from what I can see, no annotations of any kind to the Glossary.

Asking: GBP 75 / USD 95, plus shipping at cost (from Sweden).

I was interested in the signature on this copy Matt, so had a little look into it. Turns out there is a tangential connection, academically speaking. Silvan Evans, is one John Henry Silvan Evans, son of Daniel Silvan Evans. Daniel wrote An English and Welsh Dictionary, for which his son helped. Tolkien had vols. 1 and 2 in his library. From Tolkien's Library, 2nd ed. by Oronzo Cilli:
638. Evans, Daniel Silvan. An English and Welsh Dictionary, I. Denbigh: Thomas Gee, 1852. Description: Inscribed on front flyleaf: ‘Rupert H. Morris. | with his father’s best wishes. | October, 1861’. Also on front flyleaf: ‘see after page 48’. Collection: Tolkien’s personal Celtic library, preserved at the Weston Library under the auspices of the English Faculty Library (Oxford) ‘Tolkien VC 63’. S.s.: Phelpstead (2011), p. 118.
639. ______. An English and Welsh Dictionary, II. Denbigh: Thomas Gee, 1858. Description: Inscribed on front flyleaf: ‘Rupert H. Morris. | with his father’s best wishes. | October, 1861.’ Collection: Tolkien’s personal Celtic library, preserved at the Weston Library under the auspices of the English Faculty Library (Oxford) ‘Tolkien VC 64’.
So while no personal connections, it is nice to know that Tolkien had J.H. Silvan Evan's fathers books, and his son had at least one by Tolkien.

How interesting! Thank you. I just came on to say that this is now sold.
