Book VI, signed twice on the front free endpaper by Tolkien, once in brown ink and once in green ink, the second with "May 1911 K.E.S." written underneath, with English & Greek pencil and ink marginalia in a contemporary hand, folding map, advertisements, original cloth, spine dulled, upper cover marked, 8vo, 1905. Tolkien would have been nineteen when he made the dated inscription, K.E.S. presumably standing for King Edward's School, in Birmingham, which he attended.
