Lord of the Rings - US Paperbacks
Ballantine has produced most of the paperback editions in the United States, with some from other publishers showing up over the years.
There are two general sizes of paperback produced in the United States - 4"x7" (typically called "mass market" paperbacks) and larger (typically called "trade" paperbacks). Because the difference between mass market and trade paperbacks has to due with business rules (how and if the books can be returned, etc.) and nothing to do with size, these terms are used generally in the book trade, and somewhat sloppily too. Most people mean the small form factor (4x7) when they say "paperback" and a larger form factor (similar to hardcover size) when they say "trade paperback" and for the most part, they would be right.
