TLS, one page, 5.25 x 7, personal letterhead, April 12, 1966. A printed letter that was sent out to fans writing to Tolkien after the Lord of the Ring's resurgence of popularity especially in America, after the books connected with the Sixties Generation, and when Hobbitmania was in full swing. Tolkien was too busy to personally respond to everyone who wrote to him, so sent this letter instead, with the person's name and address typed in. This is to Sergeant Ridolfo of San Francisco, and is signed 'best wishes, JRR Tolkien' in fountain pen. In full: 'Thank you very much for your kind letter. I am always pleased to hear from people who have read and enjoyed my books. I hope they will continue to give you pleasure.' In fine condition, with light wrinkling to the middle of the right side, to, but affecting the appearance sharp and clean signature or the overall appearance. Uncommon!
