Triode
Triode was an general interest fanzine edited by Eric Bentcliffe (1927-1992) out of Holmes Chapel in Cheshire, England. Eric Bentcliffe was an important figure in post-war fandom, a founder of the BSFA, a member of the Thirdmancon committee, and the 1960 delegate of the Trans-Atlantic Fan Fund. Bentcliffe was really co-editor of the long-running fanzine Triode, with constant contributor Terry Jeeves always listed as it’s Publisher. Triode was one of the few British fanzines to persist from the 1950s to the 1970s, although there was a 14 year gap between issues #18 and #19. Issue #1 appeared in September 1954, and the last, #26, in Winter 1977.
- Triode #17
- contains the article "No Monroe in Lothlorien" by Arthur Weir. The article was subsequently reprinted in Eldritch Dream Quest #2 and I Palantir #3, 1964.
- Triode #18 (May 1960)
- contains a letter from J. R. R. Tolkien in response to "No Monroe in Lothlorien", in which he says that based on his experience with scripts and 'story-line' he feels that "only an overwhelming financial reward could possibly compensate an author for the horrors of the conversion of such a tale into film." (Hammond and Scull, The J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide - Chronology, p. 557).
- Triode #19 (May 1974)
- contains the article "Illustrating Tolkien" by Jim Cawthorn, as well as having his illustration "Weathertop" on the front cover.
