TCG Letter #1119

From
J.R.R. Tolkien
To
Edith Bratt
Date
8 August 1914
Type
Unknown
Transcript
Partial
Tolkien writes to Edith about his hikes in Cornwall with Father Vincent Reade of the Birmingham Oratory. The two were visiting the Lizard Peninsula from ~5 August through ~19 August.

It is from this letter that we know most of what Tolkien and Fr. Vincent did during their visit to Cornwall. He says that walked over the moor-lands and cliffs to Kynance Cove.

Chronology notes that Tolkien wrote to Edith on 5, 8, 11, 14, and 16 August, and that a significant portion of the quotes reproduced in Carpenter's Biography came from the 8 August letter.
