G.B. Smith writes to Tolkien, informing him that he is on sick leave and will not be able to attend the next T.C.B.S. meeting (18 April). He also mentions he is trying to transfer to a new batallion in Oxford that he hopes Tolkien might be able to join once examinations are completed.
Wayne G. Hammond also note that before Tolkien received this letter, he sends a telegram to Christopher Wiseman that Wiseman "finds disturbing". No further details of this telegram are known currently.
