G.B. Smith writes to Tolkien while he is at Brocton Camp praising him for his poem 'Kortirion among the Trees' saying that "it is a great and a noble poem". He says that life is dreary and he thinks that he is not proving very successful in the army. He misses his friends, and wishes that the T.C.B.S. could have a council.
Garth notes that Smith casually refers to the Germans as "Bosch" in this letter, and that he calls T. W. Earp a "terrible fellow'.
