Tolkien thanks Michael for keeping an eye of Christopher. He says that "Chris" will make a mess of things to start, but he will settle in and be of no further trouble to Michael, or himself.
He offers encouragement to his second son Michael who was away at school. Michael had not yet made the school rugby team and Tolkien makes mention of his own time playing. He closes saying there is no news, and then gives news that Edith has taken to "car-riding" and he must that afternoon take her out.
In the King Edward's School Chronicle it is noted that a number of the team were injured during this match.
