Father Christmas's letter for 1927 was the first to include Christopher, and other members of the Tolkien family, and others connected with the Tolkien household. "My dear people: John, Michael, Christopher, also Aslaug, also Mummy, also Auntie Jennie — also daddy". FC remarks that the list of people gets more and more, while he gets poorer but he hopes that he has managed to deliver everything that was asked for. This is meant for Michael and Christopher, and FC says that he has not had a letter from John. John, he assumes is getting too big and will soon not hang his stocking at Christmas.
He says that the North Pole has been very cold this year, "colder than any cold thing ever has been". Polar Bear had put his nose against it, and is now in a red bandage after ripping off his skin. North Polar Bear leaves a post script saying that was because he was hungry!
He says that it has been very dark, and referring to his earlier letter when the 'Great Bear' was missing after PBs huge firework, remarks that PB has asked him to shine brighter than usual to make the North Pole brighter.
Father Christmas again mentions the 'Man in the Moon', who he says had visited him, remarking that he gets lonely on the Moon. They made him some Plum Pudding.
FC mentions Aslaug, the Tolkien's Icelandic Au Pair who is staying with them. She is addressed in the letter as well as Aunt Jennie.Jennie Grove, Edith's cousin.[1]
