Tolkien sends the last of his Father Christmas Letters to Priscilla. He offers some comfort on the War situation and offers his love to all his children, he hopes that he may be needed again in the future. Polar Bear is very tired so has not written, but sends his "love and a hug". He asks if Priscilla still has Silly Bear?
In an interview from the time of the first publication of the letters,Over 21, December 1976. With grateful thanks to Marquette University Archive for their assistance locating this interview.[1] Priscilla Tolkien recalled the final letter. "That was my letter, you see. I was the only child still young enough to receive the letter. It arrived in the middle of the war, I remember. A very dark time."
