Further to a telephone conversation between Tolkien and Joy Hill the previous day, Tolkien reiterates that he will not be photographed. He remarks that he has written a "polite" letter to Jeanetter Wagner, Senior Editor of the Sunday Evening Post on the matter.
In their Chronology, Hammond and Scull remark that on 28 April 1966 "Philippe Halsman telephones Tolkien to make an appointment to take photographs to illustrate an article for the Saturday Evening Post (presumably the Resnik interview)." Tolkien's response is one of annoyance. At this juncture, Halsman contacts GA&U directly and speaks with Joy Hill on the matter. Joy Hill then speaks with Tolkien on the telephone that day.Chronology, entry for 28 April 1966, pp. 696-7[1]
