To
Dick Plotz
Date
12 September 1965

Transcript
Complete
Tolkien writes about The Silmarillion, the Númenórean legends, and his friendship with C.S. Lewis. He discusses the formation of the Tolkien Society of America (which name he doesn't like) and the names that members are selecting for themselves.

Tolkien also included a typescript of a portion of Letter from Nan C. Scott to J.R.R. Tolkien • July 6 1965 (#1029) to let the Tolkien Society of America know about the Ace Books controversy.

In the 2023 revised edition of Letters, Tolkien goes in to more detail on the Ace controversy, calling it 'legal' but "particularly unethical". He also talks in some detail about the revisions and planned revisions being made to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
