Tolkien writing thanking Christine Jones for her interest and says that although he found her comments on the ending interesting: "If I answered all the letters I receive as they deserved, I should write nothing else."

A carbon copy with a complete transcript is held at the Marquette as part of its Tolkien collection with the original letter held at the Wade Center.
