Tolkien expresses reluctance to create drawings of hobbits and suggests leaving such tasks to someone with artistic skills. He provides a description of a hobbit as a fairly human figure with a jovial face, slightly pointed and "elvish" ears, short and curling brown hair, and feet covered with brown hairy fur.
In the 2023 revised edition of Letters, two brief sentences are restored at the end of the letter, where Tolkien acknowledges receipt of 6 further copies of The Hobbit (and that more are coming), and a copy of the advertisement (presumably for The Hobbit).
