TCG Letter #1919

From
C.A. Furth (GA&U)
To
J.R.R. Tolkien
Date
1 June 1937
Type
Unknown
Transcript
Partial
Writing to Tolkien, C. A. Furth of GA&U asks him to return the approved binding for The Hobbit. He agrees that the 'wavy line' will be removed, but says that the edge needs something but notes that Tolkien's design may change that stance. They plan to publish the book in September and GA&U will send unbound copies to C. S. Lewis and to the Oxford Magazine.

He also notes that they have written to Houghton Mifflin with regard to Tolkien's letter to them from 28 May Letter from F. Molina to J.R.R. Tolkien • 29 July 1937 (#1937)[1] and have also sent to them three copies of Tolkien's 'Silmarillion' drawings.

The book could be rushed into production for June release, but delaying until later in the year would allow for advance copies and help the American publisher.

This letter is found at the Tolkien-George Allen & Unwin archives, at HarperCollins.
