Oxford; Clarendon Press, 1981. [1982]. FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp. x, 85, [1]. Bound in the publisher's navy blue cloth over boards with gilt titles to spine. With the clipped teal dust-jacket lettered in peach. With two laid in review copy slips from Oxford University Press. Cloth ever so slightly rubbed to top spine tip, contents impeccably crisp and clean. The dust-jacket is clipped, bright and vibrant and free from nicks or tears, appears unread. A near fine copy in a fine dust-jacket. Review copy of J. R. R. Tolkien's imaginative translation of the tenth century alliterative heroic epic. The text is illuminated with extensive commentary from Tolkien's lecture notes which he wrote for a specialist series on the Exodus in the 1930s and 1940s. Turville-Petre attended Tolkien's lectures on the subject whilst a student at Oxford. Limited to a print run of 3000 copies only in 1982 (although erroneously dated 1981), the work has not been reprinted since making it very scarce, especially so in this condition.
