Never seen such a high priced book on Ebay. $75,000 buy it now for a 1/1 Hobbit. Bidding starts at $50,000. Maybe this belongs in the other thread.

Anyone who pays this kind of money for a book without having an even-bigger-mug (TM) to shift it onto is an idiot.

At this level, I think buyers are primarily speculators.

I'd quite like this set --but neither buyer has actually opened any of the editions or stated that they bought it when it first appeared. So, don't think I'll be bidding. Don't particularly want a set with a 3rd impression LR...

Don't see this one show up often any more (and don't think the TS has had it available for a while now).

Here's an odd bit of spiel -

http://www.ebay.com/itm/J-R-R-TOLKIEN ... tible&hash=item2ebde97fe2

Under the heading 'Origin' the vendor has written 'India' - giving the impression that this edition comes from the sub-continent.

And, in the main body of the text we get this -

"IN THE FINISH OTHER MAP"

- whatever that means.
