Btw, that is (was?) an interesting price Jlong.
Hope nobody is bidding on this here, & I've gone & ruined it for them by bringing it to the forum's attention, but...
"MIKEY FROM PRISCA" 1944 Lord of the Rings, Hobbit
...interested in what this finally goes for.
I've probably mentioned this before (), but I got offered loads of these books a few years back, some of which were presents from CT & Priscilla to Michael. No idea why I didn't buy those ones, judging by this auction. Still, I'm happy with Michael's little 1979 paperback copies of The Silmarillion that I did (have the sense) to purchase...

Certainly a decent price at the moment, but buyers should be aware that-
1. FOTR and ROTK are both ex library with stamps inside and out.
2. FOTR and ROTK do not have the correct jackets. (9th and 8th imp. jackets).
To be fair the vendor makes this clear, but I see a lot of these kinds of listings going for much higher prices than (I consider) the true market value.

Here's a seller who isn't so clear in their (written) description...
J. R. R. TOLKIEN's THE HOBBIT/RARE 1st Edit.-7th IMPRESSION/ORIGINAL DUST JACKET
AUTHOR of THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY
F/NF? This is a very nice copy, but any jacket with a piece physically detached & cellotaped together is neither "fine" or anywhere "near" fine! Just as well they provided so many images, to show condition.

This is the same seller as LOTR mentioned in the previous two posts.
I'm sure that I have seen the Library FOTR before, was it mentioned on this site?

I think it has been mention before Trotter.
I've just gone & actually looked at the LR listing & I think Roccondil is being a little too fair.
The listing is far from making it clear that these are in later jackets; & these are not just GA&U "later" (i.e. one impression removed & of publisher origin), they've just be added by this seller, or a previous owner e.g. "original 9th impression dust-jacket" --original to what? This is like putting a HarperCollins jacket on it & calling it "original". RK states "complete as issued" --the first impression was issued with a 8th impression jacket?
The pictures also reveal numerous details (as Roccondil points out) which the seller makes absolutely no mention of in the descriptions (some you would think requiring noting); although some details are revealed slightly further down in another section titled "Condition Report", even although the books have been individually graded (the jackets haven't) in the previous section(s).
Poorly laid out, in my opinion. If you want photographs to "speak" for condition, don't grade them yourself in four different sections. Totally unnecessary.

If there is someone out there who is interested in a German version, this is the first edition from 1969/1970 signed by the artist who draw the covers in f/f condition.
Unfortunately too much for me.....
A good price on this, at least at the moment -

Wasn't sure whether to post this here or under the "Wonders of Ebay" thread. It would be interesting to get some idea of the content given the rabid movie fanboy nature of the website listed as the author. Has anyone seen this publication before?
