I just read this quote on J.R.R. Tolkien's Hobbit from Philippa Boyens

Why make the film at all if you think so little of the source material?
I would have thought that you could attract great actors by producing a film of, arguably, the most successful children's novel, The Hobbit.

I would have thought that you could attract great actors by producing a film of, arguably, the most successful children's novel, The Hobbit.
I'm going to go & see it, but I can't say I'm looking forward to it that much. The reviews have all been quite muted, saying the extra frame stuff is pretty poor & the plot is just too small to stretch over three films; or at least the first film doesn't have enough material in it. It doesn't sound that good.
