I am bit confused by this listing. Why have "the engravings and a few pages in the back" been "replaced from another copy"?

I'd love to know how many of these box-sets were made and sold, they do seem to have become very expensive on ebay with no real indication of rarity.
I think this may have been posted before, but it is such a "great" deal that it deserves to be posted again: http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Hobbit-by ... ks_UK&hash=item589c4a40b1
I'm sure that Findegil would have loved to have got this much for one copy of their book (£1012.51), but this is not a great bargain (though excellent book)

It's really amazing to see how much it has risen in price just the last few years. My wife bought me Artist & Illustrator as a birthday gift in 2007 and she paid around 30 GBP. I thought HarperCollins kept reprinting it?

I think you are right, the book is still available and a long way from reaching over £1000
