I apologize in advance if I'm missing something obvious and also for asking this question here, being that it is not really related to collecting (if anyone can recommend another site for questions like this, I would be grateful). But I am wondering what story is referred to in Carpenter's 'A Biography' here:
"Once or twice he decided to move away from the mythical, legendary, and fantastic, and wrote a conventional short story for adults, in a modern setting. The results were unremarkable, showing that his imagination needed myth and legend in order to realise it's full potential." (Part IV: Section 6, p169)
