UP Paperback Slipcase Material

I've noticed that some of the Unwin Paperback slipcases used in the 1970s were made of different materials. Specifically I've noticed that the 1976 'Hobbit and Other Stories' and 1976 'The Lord of the Rings' slipcases have two different versions... one with paper covering and one with a more glossy or even laminated covering. Has anyone else noticed this or does anyone care to comment as to why this was done? I just thought it was interesting...

Well, for the little it's worth, after having seen numerous examples I can speculate that the 'glossy covered' slipcases are the later states, at least in these two instances. The 'paper covered' slipcases contain the earlier impressions in both sets (The Hobbit and Other Stories for example will have the first state Hobbit in the 'paper covered' slipcase and the second state in the 'glossy' case. And the 'paper covered' Rings slipcase will have 4th impressions whereas the 'glossy' will have 5th and/or 6th impressions). OK, I'll shut up now
