Devastating. I nabbed it a couple days ago (and was thrilled) only to be messaged today by the seller and told that his 'wife had already sold it on another site'.

Funny how that always seems to happen on items like this, and never on the less obscure items (i.e. the ones where the seller doesn't get contacted by someone offering more money after the auction ends). Sorry that it didn't pan out. There will be another copy at some point.

Did we ever establish how many of these were printed?

Had a couple over the years and I think at one stage we estimated 1 comes up every 18 months (or did I make that up!)

Cant be that many printed though?

No, I don't think we ever had a definitive number. I think I've seen 5 of them come up that I can specifically remember. Once every 18 months sounds about right.

I definitely looked for mine for two or three years, and - whilst very possible I missed a copy - I didn't see any come up prior to the copy I purchased. It could be argued that they are a tiny bit more common now. Maybe we will see a few more come to market. They are 25 years old now, so you would think they would be getting moved on from the original owners.

I have asked HC about this edition, will post if they are able to give any additional information on numbers, etc. , but this was 25 years ago and they may not have the records any more.

I think this was around the time that DB had said that some of the Hardbacks of HoME were only selling 25 or so copies a year. I wonder if UT had also dropped to such low levels?
