The Morgan Library and Museum in New York City will be hosting the Tolkien: Maker of Middle-earth exhibition from January to May 2019 after its initial run in the Bodleian Museum in the UK later this year.
The following important details have been confirmed so far:
- The exhibition will be slightly smaller - not all shown in the UK will make the trip to the USA for the exhibition
- The regular museum admission is required to see the exhibition (currently this is $20 per adult). The Bodleian exhibition is free admission
- The Bodleian exhibition catalog will be available to purchase at the Morgan exhibition, along with other Tolkien related books and merchandise
[UPDATE] The Morgan will not be showing items related to Tolkien's other writings, such as Roverandom, nor his academic work. Also, there are more family items in the Bodleian exhibition that won't be traveling to New York. They will be showing, however, the majority of items related to The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion.
More information to come as available.
